Facsimile reprint, Africana Collectanea Series No. XI: 270 + 297 pages (including the new index provided for this edition), frontispiece, maps - 1 folding, black vynide.

'Godlonton's Narrative is described in Mendelssohn's Bibliography as "an account of the Kaffir Wars of 1834-35 compiled from articles…[in] the Graham's Town Journal, official reports and dispatches, the author's personal knowledge of the incidents of the campaign, and from information received by him from Sir Harry Smith and his Officers ." There is a comprehensive account of the settlers' case, and of their difficulties in the frontier districts, as well as an Appendix which records figures of settlers' losses and other contemporary data. This is an essential and invaluable source book of the period.' Editor's note.
