Blue Boards with gilt lettering. Signed by Professor Doke on front endpaper. Illustrated with 109 photographic plates. The book covers the 1936 Kalahari EXpedition. Professor Doke describes insight into the various aspects of the Bushman of this area, including the games, plays and dances of the Bushmen. As Doke declared "The Bushmans' capacity for imitation and mimicry is shown to wonderful advantage when he stages the hunting of the gemsbok or the killing of springbok by lions, or the fight between a baboon and a dog."

This copy contains the rare plates 73-76 and 94 which were expurged before publication, consequently most copies do not have these plates.

109 Black and white plates and two fold out charts.  Chapters include The Musical Practices of teh Auni & Khomani Bushmen, Physical Characters, Distribution and Genealogy, The poison arrow, Weapons  Finger Mutilation in the Bushmen and much more.

A good good clean copy with no writing or markings, tight binding, and some foxing. There are also two clippings pasted in the back of the book.
