First edition. xix, 170 pages, coloured frontispiece, 11 coloured plates, 14 black and white plates, numerous illustrations, folding map, tan cloth with gilt vignette of a lion on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine, top edge gilt, others uncut, light foxing mainly in the text, a very good copy in the dust jacket now preserved in a Brodart protector.

Czech (Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of Big Game Hunting Books 1785 - 1999 page 35 - 36 : "Read all you can about the animals you intend to hunt" writes Brocklehurst in his author's note. He ably describes all manner of big game, presenting them in alphabetical order from addax to Grant's zebra. The text is beautifully complemented by W.H. Riddell's coloured plates and life - size silhouettes of spoor. Included is a six page chapter titled "On Killing Elephant" by W.D.M. Bell
