The early issues of the important Lantern magazine/periodical are difficult to come by, especially in nice condition. This lot of six volumes from 1951/1952 comprises Volume 1, No.'s 4 & 5 and Volume 2, No.'s 1,2, 3 & 4. and they contain articles on fine art and architecture (especially South African), Literature, History, Nature and so on. Of particular note are the South African Art contributions, some of which contain information not available elsewhere. Examples - Battiss on Rock Art - The Source of Art III, IV and V, Battiss on Eugene Labuschagne, Sampie de Wet on Preller and articles on Coert Steynberg, Jan Buys, Pierneef and others.
The first volume, in the original wrappers is in about very good condition. The last five volumes are string bound in the original Lantern board file/folder - all are in the original wrappers and can be readily removed intact and unscathed if so desired. They are all in very good plus to near fine condition.
