Longmans, London, 1918. Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Blue cloth gilt titles to front board and spine. Faded nos to spine. Internally good with a frontis and 15 full page illustrations. Some heavy scattered foxing in parts. Slight wear to spine heads.

Born in 1851 and educated at Rugby school, Selous left for Africa in 1870 to be a big game hunter, he spent much of his time hunting in sub Saharan Africa and served in the Matabele wars. During the great war, he was given a commission in the 25th Btn of the Fusiliers, at age 63.

He was Killed during the campaign. Later a unit of the Rhodesian Special forces took his name as the Selous Scouts.
