An original cheque of Eleven Pounds, Three Shillings and Six Pence, signed by the sixth and last president of the Orange Free State Republic, Marthinus Theunis Steyn (1857-1916).

The cheque is made out to General Christiaan de Wet (1854-1922) and is also signed by him on the back.

The cheque is dated 30 March, 1909 and carries a stamp indicating that it was paid the following day. It is a cheque of the Nederlandsche Bank voor Zuid-Afrika - today known as Nedbank.

President Marthinus Theunis Steyn was one of the most prominent Boer leaders during the Second Anglo-Boer War, also sometimes referred to as The South African War (1899-1902).
