Specially bound for her with her monogram on spine, Sarah Bernhardt’s copy inscribed to her by the author, from her library: the binding with her 'S.B. monogram to the spine.

Paul DEROULEDE (1846-1914) La Moabite drame vingtieme edition. Paris: Calmann Levy, 1882. 16mo. Pp. XI, 146. Contemporary vellum-backed marbled paper-covered boards, the flat spine gilt, divided into compartments, with black leather lettering-piece in the second compartment, and gilt 'S.B.' monogram in the fifth, binder’s ticket to front pastedown (somewhat soiled and rubbed [see images]). Provenance: Sarah Bernhardt (half-title inscribed “a Sarah Bernhardt / a Phedre, / Profonde et enthousiaste / admiration / P. Deroulede 1893”, binding)

[Together with:]  a period photo postcard of 'the Divine Sarah' in character, unused.

"Known as “the Divine Sarah,” Sarah Bernhardt was probably the most famous actress in the world in the late 19th century. Her stage and film acting career spanned six decades and multiple continents.
