Led by Ernest Shackleton, this account includes extracts from the diary he kept from 24-28 September, 1921 and 1-4 January, 1922, as well as a poem. Furthermore, there is the official narrative of the Quest expedition drawn from the diaries of Alexander Macklin and James Marr. The scientific results all appear in the appendices. Sir Ernest Shackleton died on the 5th January 1922, less than four months into the expedition. He was buried at his wife's request in the whaler's cemetery in Grytviken, South Georgia. The author of this book, Frank Wild, accompanied Shackleton on all of his Antarctic expeditions and was with him for the open boat journey and trek across Elephant Island on the 1914-19 Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition. After Shackleton's death he took over command of the Quest. Original blue pictorial cloth, gilt titles and vignette on spine a little dulled but quite legible. Light foxing to prelims. Original pictorial endpapers firm and tight. Well illustrated with photo plates. Overseas shipping will be about $35.
