This lot comprises the following six items:

1. George Bernard Shaw. c26 word autograph note(seemingly in the handwriting of Shaw) on a personalised pink postcard, hand addressed by the writer and stamped. The printed postcard bears Shaw's two addresses - at Ayot St. Lawrence and his London address in Whitehall and states: From Bernard Shaw. It is hand dated 16.12.46. The note reads: .Messages are no use: they bore people. Nothing can help a paper but a staff with talent enough to ensure something readable in every number. This note is followed by the initials T.E.L. - the significance of which I have been unable to establish. The note is not signed - I have compared the handwriting on this card to other examples of Shaw's handwriting and offer it in the belief that it is his.

2. Siegfried Sassoon. Short autograph note signed on a hand addressed stamped postcard dated 11.5.46 giving permission (? for publication of a Sassoon poem) for a fee of 3 guineas. Appended by the recipient "cheque sent 30.x.48" - a rather belated response one would think?

3. Osbert Sitwell. Short autograph note signed and dated 29.vii.49, on a hand addressed pictorial postcard (Renishaw Hall) declining an invitation.

4. Edith Sitwell. c40 word autograph letter signed on a Renishaw Hall letterhead dated 27 July: 1949, declining an invitation to lecture to the Literature Society.

5. C. Day-Lewis. Short typed letter signed on a Chatto & Windus letterhead, dated 25th. September 1968, regarding possible contributions to the Our Phoenix Living Poet Series.

6. Laurie Lee. Nice circa 80 word autograph letter signed and dated 18 March 72, to a school master re his class having enjoyed Lee's two books (presumably Cider With Rosie and As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning) and their project to design new dustwrappers for these books.
