Scarce work of 1540 of this early merchants' guide written by Bartholomeo di Pasi from Venice. It is a manual to the measurements of the Mediterranean and Near East, this pocketbook for sixteenth-century Italian traders is one of the foremost sources for the study of the metrologies of Venice and her trading partners in the early sixteenth century.
It enabled conversion between Venetian currency, weights and measures and units of other Italian city-states, European neighbours and more exotic locations in the Levant, North Africa, the Near and Middle East, including Constantinople, Aleppo, Tripoli, Damascus, Cyprus, Corfu, Rhodes, and Crete for many items as pearls, silks, wool, saffron, chestnuts, figs, galangal, vegetable oils, gold and silver.
It was printed for the first time in Venice 1503, then again in 1521, for the third time in 1540 and in 1557.
This copy shows many signs of usage and ancient notes from a unique hand, it was probably been owned by a rich merchant of that time.
