A very good copy of the first Bible published in the Afrikaans language. It was printed in England and the first 10,000 copies arrived in Cape Town in May, 1933.

This copy still retains its original leather binding which is frequently found worn or rebound. Contents clean with minimal age wear usually associated with this edition.

There is a short gift inscription on the verso of the front end paper "Aan: Jan van Rooy. Van: Sy vader, J.C. van Rooy. 27 Aug. 1933". J.C. van Rooy was a former chairman of the F.A.K. (Federation of Afrikaans Culture Organisations), member of the Council of the University of South Africa (UNISA), as well as a professor of the Potchefstroom University.

There is an old newspaper cutting with an image of Van Rooyen included in this Bible, as well as a newspaper cutting about the passing of former senator Jan de Klerk (father of F.W. de Klerk). Additionally there is a telegram from Senator De Klerk and his wife Corrie in which they express their sincere condolences to the Van Rooyen family on his passing.
