Vol 1 third edition revised - 795 pages; vol 2 3rd edition revised - 716 pages; vol 3 2nd edition revised - 811 pages; vol 4 2nd edition revised – 896 pages; volume 5 first edition - 901 pages; vol. 6 first edition Index volume - 278 pages, folding colour maps and plans, half brown leather with marbled boards, titled gilt on the spines – the marbled boards are scuffed on several volumes, a good set.

Edward Augustus Freeman (2 August 1823 – 16 March 1892) was an English historian, architectural artist, and Liberal politician during the late-19th-century leadership of Prime Minister William Gladstone, as well as a one-time candidate for Parliament. He held the position of Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford. He was a prolific writer, publishing 239 distinct works.
