Two Parts bound together of this scarce item. 1823. L.B. Seeley & Son , J. Eedes and Others. 8vo. Part I paginated i – xlvi and Part 2 paginated 1 – 118 and 2pp. advertisement for other books (including Martin Luther) at the rear. Bound in full calf (probably 19th. century) with gilt decorations and inner dentelles and marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Occasional underlining and moderately frequent contemporary neat ink notes and annotations, mainly at the base of several pages. All edges gilt. SABIB. Vol. 3, Page 629, identifies the Mendelssohn copy as the only copy with both Volumes/Parts and three others of just Vol. 1. The only copy on offer online at present seems to be of Part 1 alone.

A very good copy in original state with only slight wear to the binding and very clean internally.

In this deeply sectarian series of missives, Parker complains that "English Protestant settlers in South Africa have been exposed to the risk of extirpation." He argues that a conspiracy to this end was being directed from the Jesuit Institution in Lancashire. The issue was discussed in Parliament, and as such can be found in Hansard from that year. There is an advert for the work appended, which explains that it was "framed at periods when the writer and his family suffered most severely from the conduct of official men, and when he was well convinced that popery in the government of the Cape, caused the oppression exercised towards him."

A very scarce item, particularly with both Parts present.
