The images show the full introduction by Horace Waller, in which he describes:

  • the unbroken sequence of Livingstone's journal entries over a six-year period, and
  • how the material, including Livingstone's notes for his map and his sketches, which form the basis for most of the journal's illustrations, came to be safely delivered to him, first by Stanley and secondly through the efforts of Livingstone's servants

Recased in maroon leathercloth-boards with original gilt-embossed upper panel illustrations laid down and new gilt lettering to the spines; plain endpapers; frontispieces to both volumes, 19 inserted plates and 24 woodcut illustrations, 2 maps, with the larger folding map in a pocket at the end of Vol 1

  • Vol 1. xvi/360 pp of text + publisher's announcements
  • Vol 2. viii/346 pp of text + publisher's announcements
