8vo (19.5 x 13 x 3.7cm) x + 332 + 47pp. publisher's catalogue. Original hardcover binding, with gilt lettering to spine and front board. With frontispiece, 14 monochrome plates and a fold-out map at rear of book (collated and complete).

The author was a journalist who was trapped within Mafeking during the siege of 1899-1900. "The Siege of Mafeking" consists of a collection of his letters and dispatches that were published immediately after his return to England at the end of the siege, well before the end of the Boer War. As a result, they reflect his unedited observations, presented without the benefit of hindsight. (Source: amazon.com)
