Limited Deluxe Edition, Hardcover Quarto, bound in marbled cloth boards with leather spine, and has 235 pages. Decorative gilt design on the front boards and to the spine. Light rubbing on the head/heel and corners.

A reproduction of one of Baines's paintings is pasted on to the jacket. The dust jacket has suffered insect damage/rubbing on front, front edges, back edges and parts of back surface; there is a large open tear on the bottom of the spines jacket with small tears/chips along the edges, also has been sunned on the spine/back board.

Illustrated by a selection of Thomas Baines's water-colours, drawings and prints, with captions and a new introduction by F. R. Bradlow. There are many monochrome illustrations and a map in the text. Hand-numbered 44 of a limited deluxe edition of 200 copies, signed by Bradlow on the copyright page. Overall, the boards are most attractive.

The spine is handsome. Within, the contents are near immaculate. They are fresh, creamy, tight, elegant, clean, clear, produced with attention and delicacy of manner.

Professor J P R Wallis, some of whose books were published in the Oppenheimer series, was the leading authority on the explorer and painter Thomas Baines, about whom little was known before Wallis began his researches.
