An account of one of the early treks to China and Tibet in the C20th. The purpose of the remarkable journey was to investigate the mountain structure of northwest Yunnan and west Schezuan, to measure the heights of certain mountain peaks and to make a geological survey of the contours. The Gregorys travelled from Bhamo in Burma, to Rangoon and Likiang (Lijiang) in China's Yunnan province, and back again. They traversed the Mekong-Salween divide, the mountain ranges cresting the Mekong Valley, and the great gorges of the Upper Yangtze. They walked some 1500 miles/2,400 km through Burma to south-western China and Chinese Tibet.
