A Bibliography of Le Vaillant’s Voyages and Oiseaux D’Afrique, (1962), number 22: In volume 2 page 50 the plate is substantially the same as the so-called 'supressed plate', except that the woman's peculiar conformation has been masked by an apron and several strings of beads round her waist.

A South African Bibliography, Volume 3, page 102, ‘The frontispiece in volume 1 'Dangerous attack of a tyger' is an extra plate and is only found in the Lane edition. It does not replace the Hottentot woman as stated by Mendelssohn's Bibliography volume 1 page 890.’
