The first edition of this double issue of Verve which features the work of Picasso at Vallauris between 1949 and 1951 with an emphasis on his ceramics and sculpture but also includes his paintings. The cover, frontispiece and title page were specially designed by Picasso for this edition and printed by the Draeger Freres. Text in French by Georges Ramie.
Folio. Unpaginated. In the original plain boards with Picasso designed dustwrapper. The dustwrapper has light wear, two 3cm. transparent archival tape reinforcements at the extremes of the spine and a 12 x 6 mm. chip along the lower edge of the front panel. Internally the book is fine, unmarked and without foxing. A nice copy.
Verve was a modernist Parisian art magazine published byTeriade between 1937 and 1960. The magazine was first published in December 1937. The headquarters of the magazine was in Paris. It published 38 issues in 10 volumes including original lithographs by the most prominent artists of the Parisian art scene of the first half of the 20th century. In addition the early contributors included James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway.
