Scarce work of 1632 about Vesuvio mountain by the physician from Genoa Vincenzo Alsario della Croce (b. 1570). He was teacher of medicine in Rome for more than 20 years, and the first one describing epilepsy. Physician of the Popes Gregorio XV and Urbano VIII, Alsario was expelled from Rome for his bad character "bisbetico, litigioso, millantatore soverchio e poco prudente" (Gerini 1829, p. 287).

The work, written on the occasion of the disastrous eruption of Vesuvio happened the 12 of December 1631 is a physical medical study about the eruption of Vesuvio and Etna and deseases connected.

Alsario accurately describes eruption and its effects, the earthquakes and flood associated citing writers of classical litterature and comparing them with those of Sinai and Hecla in Iceland.

Interesting part describing deseases provoqued in the town of Torre Annunziata.

At the end of the volume is a list of the eruption of Vesuvio mountain and relating bibliography. In the text description of eruption of Etna in 1537.

Full parchment coeval cover with manuscripted title in the spine in very good general conditions slightly worn in the edges and spine. Missing parts in the back plate. Binding in good conditions apart for pages from 313 until the end partially detached. Crack in the first white page. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxings and some yellowings. Slight humidity stain in the right edge. Slight wearings in the edges of pages from 313 until the end. Ink stain and wearing in the title page with slight loss of text. In 8. Dim. 22x16 cm. Pp. (8)+317+(3).
