Captain Donovan landed at Cape Town in 1893 to enjoy a big game hunt into the veldt country near the Limpopo River. Buffalo, eland and sable were collected, with hippopotamus bagged on the Umtelique River and additional sport after lion and kudu. The sporting adventure had just come to an end when the First Matabele War erupted, with the author participating in that action against Matabele tribesmen. Professionally rebound in dark blue cloth with gilt leather title labels on spine. New endpapers. Original title block tipped in on rear free endpaper. Well illustrated with text photos, large folding map. There is a hole in the preface page affecting 3 lines of text. A tight copy free of foxing.
