Stephen Grover CLEVELAND (March 18, 1837 - June 24, 1908, the 22nd and 24th President of the United States). - Frances Folsom CLEVELAND Preston (July 21, 1864 - October 29, 1947, First Lady of The United States from 1893 to 1897, becoming First Lady at age 21, she remains the youngest wife of a sitting president).

4pp. octavo (6 3/8 x 4 3/4in; 163 x 121mm), from the First Lady to her daughter 'Dear Esther', signed 'Lovingly / Mother', with associated envelope, signed and addressed by the First Lady: "Miss Esther Cleveland / Westland / Princeton / N.J.'

Provenance: Esther Cleveland, and by descent).

An interesting example of one of the 'perks' available to the ex-First Lady: free postage of non-political material. Esther, the only child to be born in the White House to a serving President, is staying at her parents home: the house where her father lived after retiring from politics, Westland Mansion in Princeton, New Jersey.
