2 volumes, 276 and 179 pages, frontispiece in each volume, numerous plates protected by tissue guards and other illustrations in the text, volume 1 signed by the author on the title page, black cloth titled in silver on the upper covers and spines, light foxing on the page edges in volume 1, good copies in the dust jacket.

The inscription in the second volume on the front free endpaper reads: To Mr and Mrs Bernard Pitman With compliments… Heller 1 - 12 - 59.
