Antoni Tapies (1923-2011) was a major 20th Century Spanish painter, lithographer and etcher.
Derriere le Miroir was an important French art magazine, created in 1946 and published until 1982. It was founded by the art dealer Aime Maeght and published by his publishing house. It featured original graphic art by the most important artists of the time. Although the issues were numbered from 1 to 253, only 200 issues were published. Of these, seven were on Tapies. Of the 200 issues of Derriere, 98 were also published in limited deluxe editions on heavy art paper and usually limited to 150 copies signed by the artist. These are all highly prized and collected. They are somewhat scarce as they were frequently broken up for framing of the graphics. The issue on offer, No. 168, was the first of the Tapies titles and by far the scarcest on the Tapies limited signed editions.
Please note that this is a large heavy book and shipping (by courier only) outside of South Africa will be costly.
