Late Victorian style leather and book cloth binding with a title label on the spine and gilt decorations on the raised bands. Marbled paper end papers, with the same design now only faintly visible on the book block edges. viii prelims, 218 pages, 2 fold out maps, 6 black and white illustrations, followed by 6 pages of the publisher's advertisements.

CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has some wear and is repaired at the base of the spine with a new piece of leather. There is a book seller's label on the front paste down. The top edge of the first few pages are stained, less so on the frontispiece. Reasonably clean internally, but for a stain, possibly from a dead insect, on pages 80 to 86. There is no half title.
