Dr. Isobel Robertson, a grandniece of Colonel Russell, has compiled a chronicle from letters written to his wife by Col Russell during the period he served in South Africa. The letters spotlight endurance, doggedness and determination that helped to save lives and militate suffering of the wounded, it is written in simple language and straightforward style of adventure and achievement. Signed on front endpaper by Dr. Isobel Robertson. 

Included is a note on letterhead of South African War Veterans' Association Montreal Canada to Dr. K G Kling of Cape Town. (previous owner of book)

Illustrated with Black and White images and maps.
