J.A. Heese was the Nederlandse Gereformeerde Church archivist for many years. He provides an extensive genealogical list of early Cape settlers and whom they married. In his introduction, Heese alludes to intermarriage and the lack of white women available for matrimony at the Cape, thus paving the way for his son's groundbreaking study, GROEP SONDER GRENSE (1984).
