The lengthy title continues: "And Surrounding Country. With a full and comprehensive Account of the System of Agriculture adopted by the Colonists: Soil, Climate, Natural Productions, &c., &c., &c., Interspersed with Observations and Reflections on the State of Slavery in the Southern Extremity of the African Continent."
The Jaffe book plate on the front paste down.
Bound with brown leather and matching paper covered boards with gilt decorations and titling on a blue title label. Folding frontispiece. xxi prelims, 320 text pages followed by Directions to the Binder and a page listing new books published by James Cundee, the publisher. All ten of the black and white engraved plates, including the frontispiece, are present, but the plate normally found at page 271 has been bound in opposite page 181.
CONDITION DETAILS: The binding is still holding tight, but is worn, and there is some loss of surface at the extremities. There is a pen name on the front free end paper. As usual, the folded frontispiece was printed on a thick and heavy paper, so its fold marks have left impressions on the title page and a few subsequent pages. The frontisepiece and a few other plates have closed edge tears. Some of the text pages are rather browned. There is some foxing and a bit of soiling throughout.
