This is a nearly very good copy of the first edition of Jan Hofmeyr's biography of Onze Jan, his father, published more than a century ago. Father and son were both leading politicians, the son becoming Deputy Prime Minister under Smuts.
Maroon cloth boards, gilt to spine. Plain green endpapers. Frontispiece. xvi + 731 pp of text, index and errata + 11 other inserted plates on art paper.
CONDITION. The copy is complete, unmarked and undiscoloured. The covers are rubbed at the extremities and outer hinges. The binding is tight. A prize certificate is pasted on to the front paste-down (see images).
