Original off whiteboards with gilt owl vignette to front board - Quarter black spine to match boards.
Arabella Elizabeth Roupell is shown at the age of 82 in a picture to front fly.
She visited the Cape in the early 1840's with her husband, a judge on furlough from India.
Arabella was a botanical artist of standing, and she painted many of the wildflowers she collected at the Cape. In 1849, some of these were published in the now rare and famous "Cape Flowers by a Lady."
The present volume appearing more than a century after the first, is the second publication of her work. It is of significance from botanical, historical and artistic aspects, and will certainly become a sought-after item of Africana.
