As well as the standard Einglish and Afrikaans editions of this book, which were limited to a total of 2000 copies, the printers and binders, Penrose Press, produced 50 Remarque copies (30 English and 20 Afrikaans) in special editions for the Reserve Bank as publishers. The special edition certificate is inserted at the front of this unnumbered copy, which was kept by Penrose as a reference copy. When the Penrose business closed, its collection of special copies was shared among the company's senior executives. This copy went to the late Ron Deacon, several items from whose collection are on offer in this auction.
