Lieutenant General Sir John Jarvis Bisset KCMG, CB. (25 December 1819 – 25 March 1894) was a British Army officer who became Colonel of the 106th Regiment of Foot. He was commissioned as an ensign in the Cape Mounted Riflemen in 1835 and fought in the 6th, 7th and 8th Frontier Wars. He became Commanding Officer of his regiment and went on to be acting Governor of Natal in 1865. Military adventures are intermixed with hunting adventures, mostly in the Eastern Cape. The Duke of Edingburgh went on various hunting expeditions which are recorded here.
Later rebound three-quarter leather over marbled boards. five raised bands with gilt decoration or text in panels.
The title page is not extant. the binding is a little loose with some illustrations loose (but all present), pages lightly tanned throughout. map at rear has no tears. externally attractive with very nice shelf appearance.
