A Story of everyday life and work among the South African Tribes from 1859 to 1869

First edition: xix, 523 pages, frontispiece, folding map, 7 black and white plates, 6 wood cuts, original green cloth neatly recased, titled gilt on the spine, light foxing, a good copy.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography Volume 1 page 948:An account of Mr. Mackenzie's earlier missionary career in South Africa, embracing the narrative of his work in Kuruman, Taungs, and Likatlong, with notes on the Orange Free State, the Transvaal, " Bushman Land," and Matabeleland, and on his visit to Moselekatze, together with an interesting description of the earliest days of the Diamond Fields.

The volume affords a valuable picture of the state of the natives of South Africa at this period, with some account of the Boers and other colonists, and full details respecting the gradual spread of missionary institutions in Bechuanaland and the adjacent regions, and the establishment of many of the stations. There are a number of original illustrations, a map, and an Appendix containing considerable information respecting " The Races of Southern Africa."
