  • This is perhaps the most authoritative history of the lesser-known First Anglo-Boer War of 1881, which followed the British annexation of the Transvaal and which had as its outcome a renewed but fragile independence for the Boers and which culminated in the major war of 1899-1902

Laminated and unclipped dustjacket (3.50 pounds) illustrated in black and four other colours, beige cloth-boards with gilt title on red spine panel, endpapers printed in black on cream with different reproductions of contemporary etchings, top page-edge tinted rose, 330 pp of prelims, text, notes and index, with 37 illustrations on 16 inserted pp printed on very light matt art paper and two maps in the text
