Frontispiece of Rhodes still retains its original tissue guard. This copy is exceptionally clean and square and in as good a condition as one could possibly hope to find. There is a small and barely visible 'Germiston Public Library' blind stamp on the margins of two pages. This public library once housed a magnificent Africana collection which was meticulously put together over a great period of time. In the late 1990's, however, "new management" decided it was a good idea to get rid of it all in one go, as it was no longer deemed "relevant".
Originally printed for private circulation, surviving copies are few.
A valuable memorial to the man who not only gave his name to Rhodesia but who was also Prime Minister of the Cape Colony, first citizen of Kimberley and chairman of the Chartered Company.
A facsimile reprint of this 1905 edition was published in 1972 by Books of Rhodesia in a limited print run of 750 copies.
