Volume one was published in 1938 and the second volume followed fourteen later in 1952.

Both copies of this two volume set have their original dust jackets. Original half red leather bindings with gilt titling on the spines and matching red book cloth. Marbled paper end papers.
Volume one is copy number 71 and has xvi prelims, text unpaginated and 20 plates of which 4 are coloured.
Volume two is copy number 166 and has xvi prelims, unpaginated text and 21 plates of which 11 are coloured. Thirteen plates are fold outs.
CONDITION: The dust jackets have a bit of edge wear, and that of volume one is more faded than the still bright brick red of volume two. Overall, a clean set with very little signs of use internally.
