Elephant hunting classic.
Bell was born in 1880 and left school at 14 to make his way on
a cargo ship to Africa. After working for a time on the
Ungandan railway he set off to join the Klondike gold rush.
After fighting with the Canadian volunteers in the Boer War he
remained in Africa hunting elephants in the African interior
until the First World War.
It was then that he perfected the use of the high-velocity rifle.
During the War he fought for the British as a fighter pilot.
He returned to Africa after the war and continued to make a
successful living out of elephant hunting.
The Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter is one of the great
