1911 PHOTO ALBUM FROM WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP VICINITY-- BLACK RIVER FALLS

Soule family photo album, C. 1911: 34 images, various sizes, white ink inscriptions throughout and filling the back cover.   Front cover missing; clearly a survivor-- some images loose, a few creased...overall, acceptable to VG

Sold AS FOUND.

Many of the images have white ink captions and notations on the album paper.

Combination of snapshots and photo postcards, various sizes;  inside back cover is loaded with names. The final page has a pair of b/w photo post cards sent by "Papa Joe" Soule to his family in Qualaska, Wisc., "Gramps" etched over one man, with the page marked "At Black River Falls"-- Black River Falls. So at least a few images are from this small Wisconsin city, which invariably calls for comparisons with that wonderfully bizarre photography classic, Wisconsin Death Trip, --"a 1973 non-fiction book by Michael Lesy, based on a collection of late 19th century photographs by Jackson County, Wisconsin, photographer Charles Van Schaick – mostly taken in the city of Black River Falls" (Wikipedia.) The book documents the period when "horror arrived in the town of Black River Falls, Wisconsin."  Perhaps this is after the Horsemen passed by.  Not to say that the album has any identifiable connection to that book or its photographer, only that the location is a coincidence worth pointing out.
