This is the scarce hard bound first edition of the catalogue published to accompany the 1999 exhibition held at Christie's from the first to the 17th of September, with paintings from the Royal Geographical Society, Royal Botanical Society and the Natural History Museum. Several of the contributing writers of the text are well known to South Africans: Frank Bradlow, Marion Arnold, etc.

Original bright red cloth covered boards with gilt titling on the spine and a Baines signature device on the upper board. Decorated end papers. 212 pages and profusely illustrated.

CONDITION: The binding has a few small dents and some light soil marks. Some of the early pages are rippled, which can be seen on the image of the title page. Aside from a small pencil number on the title page, internally clean.
