262 pages, original brown cloth, decorated with a gilt vignette of a C.M.R. on the upper cover and titled gilt on the back, uncut edges, neatly rebacked with a simple repair to the cloth of the back cover, both hinges einforced, half title page lightly spotted as well as the page edges, otherwise a very good copy.
The author served in the elite C.M.R. from 1876 to 1880 and saw service in the 9th Frontier War and at Morosi's Mountain in Basutoland. He gives an interesting and detailed account of his time in the unit and of his fellow soldiers.
