The coronation of King Edward VII was a big event as it had been sixty-four years since the last sovereign had been crowned. Most people then living had never witnessed such a thing and celebrations were held over the whole of the Commonwealth.

Here is an original official programme for the coronation celebrations that were held in boom town Johannesburg, founded only sixteen years earlier.

The program for the three-day event includes the opening ceremony, name list of orchestra members, name list of chorus singers, grand open-air gymnastic display, war dance (in full war paint), by 200 full-blooded Zulus, procession regulations, route map of the procession, fireworks and pyrotechnics display, a grand torchlight procession and much more.

Very scarce early Johannesburg publication. A single copy was located in the Johannesburg Public Library during the national bibliographical survey. (See: SABIB Vol.II, page 683)
