Published by John Murray, 1867. 1st edition. A superior copy of this first edition of du Chaillus' travel account of his time in Equatorial Africa, illustrated with a folding map and 21 plates. The first edition of this work.'A Journey to Ashango-Land' is du Chaillu's first hand account of his time in Ashango Land and Equatorial Africa.Whilst du Chaillu was researching this book, he was elected the King of the Apingi tribe.Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, one folding map, and twenty-one plates.

Written by Paul du Chaillu, a French-American traveller.Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. In a half leather cloth binding with raised bands to the spine. Gilt. Externally, generally smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few minor marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Map heavily spotted.
