First Edition: 139 pages, 24 colour plates, 9 black & white illustrations, 23 distribution maps, red vynide, a good copy.

The work identifies and describes 22 species, many of which are endemic to the winter-rainfall regions of the Western Cape and Namaqualand. Snijman’s primary contribution was the formal separation of Haemanthus from Scadoxus. While they look similar to the untrained eye, Snijman utilised leaf anatomy and seed morphology to prove they are evolutionarily distinct.
