Privately published album of photographs of German prisoners of war who were interned at Andalusia camp in Jan Kempdorp.
The author, Louis Theodor Weichardt (1894-1985), was an Afrikaner of German descent. He was a South African political leader and founder of the Greyshirts (Gryshemde), which was a Nazi paramilitary organisation modelled on Nazi Germany's brown-shirted Sturmabteilung. He was the only Afrikaner interned along with the Germans during WWII at Andalusia P.O.W. camp, Northern Cape. Andalusia was the original name of the town Jan Kempdorp, named after General Jan Kemp in 1953.
A very scarce and interesting album of 20 tipped in black & white photographs depicting daily life at the camp.
