xii, 224 pages: illustrations, portraits (1 as frontispiece). Embossed cloth, corners slightly bumped, dust wrapper with rubbing to top of spine and some fraying to edges, but very rarely present. Small ownership name on front free endpaper. Produced in terms of  "War economy standard". Original price (£2 2s.net) present.

Herbert Baker's (1862-1946) autobiography. Befriended in his youth by Cecil John Rhodes, Baker designed famous Capital buildings at Pretoria and New Delhi. He also designed many schools, railway stations, churches and cathedrals, war cemeteries and war memorials, as well as edifices in Kenya. His buildings, even those designed for private use, were on a grand scale, and he always paid great attention to detail. His work brought him into contact with many leaders and prominent personalities across the English-speaking world.
