Designed and published by the African Bookman (Julian Rollnick) in 1946. Rollnick was well ahead of his time both in the design and subjects of the books he published. However, his venture was not a financial success and he merged with A.A. Balkema in the late 1940's.

'African Bookman. First South African oppositional publishing house. Founded by Julian Rollnick in 1943 and active until 1948, it aimed to make available literature suitable in language, content, and price for African readers. Notable series included ‘Sixpenny Library’, ‘Pro and Con Pamphlets’, and ‘AB Adult Readers’.' (https://www.oxfordreference.com/)
