Rhodes was the apex Randlord and Baker was an architect closely associated with him. Baker designed impressive public and private buildings across the British Empire. Stead became editor of the Pall Mall Gazette and for decades was a leading editor in England. Stead knew Rhodes well and was one of Rhodes' executors. He did not survive the sinking of the Titanic.
