8vo, 331 + 351pp. Hardcover bindings with gilt lettering to spines. With dust jackets. Fold-out maps in both volumes.

Both books signed by the author. From the collection of Jan Lion-Chachet, descendant of the author and pastor Jan Lion-Cachet.

While in exile in Madagascar, Reitz wrote about his experiences as a Boer soldier. His recollections were published in 1929 as Commando: A Boer Journal of the Boer War. The account is unique in that he was present at virtually every major event of the war. Trekking On deals with the Boer War through World War I. (wikipedia.com)

Condition: Dust jackets of both books are in a fair condition, with rubbing, edgewear and open and closed tears. Repairs made to jackets with tape. Both jackets have been covered with protective Brodart plastic sleeve. ‘Commando’: Overall very good. Light rubbing and spots of superficial wear to boards and spine, slight shelfwear and spots of sunning to spine. Minor bumps to top corners of boards. Text clean, well bound. ‘Trekking On’: Good. Stains and wrinkling to spine and front board, small stain to rear board. Light stain to front pastedown. Minor shelfwear to top and tail of spine. Text clean, well bound. Please also see photos.
