Freehold grant on vellum of a Grey Town property, with river frontage, measuring 96 acres in extent, to a Major Ludolf von Clasen of the erstwhile British German Legion, signed by Sir George Grey, Governor of South Africa, and counter-signed by his Lieutenant-General, John Maclean.

George Grey, KCB, was a British soldier, explorer, colonial administrator and writer. He served in a succession of governing positions: Governor of South Australia, twice Governor of New Zealand, Governor of Cape Colony, and the 11th premier of New Zealand.
