GASTERIAS OF SOUTH AFRICA (Collectors' Edition)

Collectors' Edition: 96 pages, colour frontispiece and 21 colour plates, 2 colour distribution maps, numerous colour illustrations and line drawings, half red leather with grey cloth boards, gilt vignette on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine which is slightly faded, contained in a matching cloth slipcase with leather lips and decorated with a plate sunk illustration, binding by Peter Carstens, a very good copy.

This work is the culmination of 13 years research during which the author revised and reduced the number of recognised Gasteria species from one hundred to just sixteen species, with six notable variations. Van Jaarsveld drew on studies of cultivated specimens, plants in their natural habitat, and herbarium samples from both South African and European collections. The text is complimented by fine watercolour illustrations by Ellaphie Ward-Hilhorst.
